You can't fight evil things without a good understanding of them, thus just knowing - and if it's the best/only way - using evil ways isn't in itself evil ...

Chakat Smoke raised an eyebrow at Neal before saying; "You knew their passions and desires and brought them where they could best pursue them. I hope you're not pretending to be evil while secretly being good. That would be dishonest of you."
"My dear chakitten," Neal said with a raised eyebrow of his own. "At no time since I met these two have I ever claimed to be honest."

Too bad some care nothing about actual intent ...

I honestly expect to explore such nuance in this story.
That's what I thought I saw going on.
Too much like real life where someone makes an assumption based on one thing - and then refuses any/everything that suggests that in this case they might just be wrong.
I have poor Neal doing a lot of things that could appear 'wrong/bad/evil' if you don't know 'why' he might have thought he needed to do it at that time.
Keep up with this - you are making things interesting ...
