I was thinking of a modern urban fantasy world.
It wouldn't be the typical urban fantasy, where magical creatures live hidden. In this, humans, and all fantasy races live together. (like Onward, I guess, but with humans). It would be interesting to imagine how society would develop and evolve to this point with all the fantasy races working together, or maybe some isolated.
Magic is, as it has always been, very rare, and hard, and unpredictable. So science and technology are a must for development.
Firearms exist, but they are about as hard to get as it they are now (except in the USA, apparently). However, melee weapons are common, and are legal to carry, but not so much to use. So incidents are rare, but sometimes happen.
Some races have their own rules. For instance, Hobbi-I mean- Halflings never wear footwear. Not really a reason why, just tradition.
First 2 characters:
The human is a fighter. She dreams of the days of yore where one could pick a sword and a shield and go on an adventure. The city is full of magical creatures, and weapons, and criminals. Surely there must be adventure somewhere.
The halfling is an assassin. Far from being the happy-go-lucky, social butterfly halfling usually are, she is a grumpy loner, whose main concern is sticking her haladie into the throats of people who deserve it.
I haven't come up with names yet. How would you name them?
