Sweet! Sublime did an wesome cover of HKP on this Soundtrack I have of major bands cover cartoon themes. I think I will listen to it a bajillion more times in spite of this work ^_^

Let's see, just from the names, the felines have to be Cleo, Riff Raff, Hector, Wordsworth and Mongo from the The Catillac Cats parts of the second Heathcliff series. And of course, the mentioned felines are the comic strips character Garfield the Cat and of course, Heathcliff. And, if I'm right, the canine is none other than Hong Kong Phooey. If it is, he's a character from the 1970s not the 1980s, as his TV show ran from 1974-1976. Gee, Mongo might be in pain after this, but only because of Hong Kong typical luck.

the HKP redesgine is in PART based on an Updated HKP short Cartoon Network had on a few years ago like in 1999. He changed from his normal form, to Basicly Ryu as a dog. So that Version of HKP its not Luck but Skill. ;)

Ah. Hmmm, I think I'd saw that commerical. And you're right, that is Ryu as a dog, which I think the animator for that short did on purpose.

Funny thing before I looked at any of the words, Hector and Wordsworth just struck out to me at first, then it just all dinged in.

Got to say excellent job, though I must say cleo looks a WHOLE lot better than she does in the cartoon :P

Recognized Riff-Raff, Hector, Mongo and HKP right off the bat, Cleo took me a second cause I was staring at her booty first, it was her cousin Wordsworth that took me the longest to recognize all done up non-80's.

Much coolness on this overhaul, can't wait to see more!

I agree with you as well. I recognized Hector and Wordsworth as well, though they look like they just got back from Miami, either, Vice, Bad Boys or C.S.I., I'm not sure which.

Those are the coolest cats I've ever seen drawn. Heathcliff wins- and the Hong-kong fooey is marvolous!

This is such a damned cool idea. I doubt there's a single anthropomorphic cartoon character from the past century that HASN'T been given the runthrough by a furry artist at some point, but you develop and stylize them so that they actually look cool and respectable, rather than...unnerving. I can't wait to see where you go with the comic :D

HKP was easy for me to see, I loved that little Cartoon Network webshort of him, and I knew I recognized Mungo from his outfit, just couldn't place him at first. The rest of the Catillac Cats totaly threw me at first though, especially Cleo, having an outfit like that on. *whistles*
Do you have any plans to add Spot as HKP's sidekick? I know he always used to get him out of trouble, but now that he's not really a bumbler, I've wondered just what he would be to HKP.

I bet Spot would still make a good sidekick, doing recon, infiltration, and perhaps some double-agent work as HKP's "inside cat" and all-around techie info-guy. Any guesses what Heathcliff might look like? My memory of him is foggy, but I'm pretty sure Garfield would make a good sumo wrestler. With Odie as his bishie (thank you, internet, 4chan /b/ in particular). Also, faved for revamped 80's excellence (insert Bill & Ted riff here).

HKP I recognized off the bat, but the Cadillac Cats took awhile for me to remember. Very nice job of reimagining them.

I loved that Hong Kong Phooey Redux and this looks awesome.

I kinda always imagined a rethink of HKP to be that he's unbeatable as a fighter... and somewhat less than impressive in his deductive reasoning and ordinary skills.

What kind of fighters were Heathcliff and Garfield?

Garfield we know is rather large and somewhat sedentary in his lifestyle. Perhaps his is one that depends upon his bulk such as Sumo Wrestling.

Heathcliff however has always been shown as quite the scrapper. He has been often shown in the boxing ring against his rival, Spike. Perhaps something like Savate or Thai Kickboxing would fill the criteria.

Just curious really.
