So... Not many people know this but recently I lost my dog I've had for about 16 years. She was my cute little mutt Boots due to her white paws and mostly black body. My father surprised me when I was in middle school, coming to pick me up from school and there she was the little black weasel in the floorboard and immediately fell asleep on my lap once I picked her up. We were best buddies since, and I've seen her through 2 litters of beautiful pups, she was a special dog who loved to play tricks on people... one of her favorites involving her kiddie bath we used for summertime. She learned that if she ran at the pool at high speed then jumped and drifted into it...she could splash all the water on an unsuspecting victim. Lets just say she baptized a lot of people...me being her first victim, little dork.

About 3 weeks ago she started losing weight, it was very tough watching my dog slowly decline, losing energy...slowly stopping eating and we knew it was coming time. I got to visit her on sunday when she had refused to eat (She stays at my parents house due to me living in an apt that doesn't allow pets). My mother told me she hadn't been eating or doing anything, I found her simply laying around in the garage...and when she saw me she started wagging her tail and it broke my heart, my mom saying she hadn't done that in awhile. They never told me of her rapidly declining condition until the day before because they didn't want me upset, I don't know and I don't dwell on it. However she wagged her tail...and slowly got up to her feet and came over to lay on my legs like old times. I was able to hand feed her a hot dog, the only food she had eaten in days according to my parents despite them trying to hand feed. My poor boots was wanting to try for me, and I love her for it. I hugged, snuggled and let her lay on my lap one last time before she went to sleep... the next day my father called and told me he buried boots near the river she loved to play in all the time, and I broke down crying, I had lost a best friend... but by a generous gift by an unbelievably special person to me...her memory can live on and show boots for what she was, a loving dog who always stuck close...
