A gift from the ocean - The great rainscale festival!
Salmons! Or also called rainscales by my feral dragon because their scales shine like a rainbow when out of the water.
Once a year, salmons migrate from the ocean to freshwater rivers, to the place where they were hatched years ago, to lay their eggs and breed the next generation. Both males and females go through a period where their bodies change dramatically: males develop a strong jaw endowed with teeth meant for competition. Also, both sexes change the colors of their scales from gray to a deep red that is striking and absolutely beautiful.
The great migration of the rainscales happens in conjunction with the greenest day of all spring, thus becoming a festival that affects all creatures and plants alike, as salmon bring life from the depths of the ocean.
And although the final destination of each salmon is death, their sacrifice is never in vain and new salmon will be born from the waters of the rivers. And just as each adult salmon brings life to its own species, its death also brings life to the forests surrounding the rivers. Loaded with precious nutrients, treasures from the depths of the ocean, the land is fertilized, and predators rejoice.
Nothing is in vain in the life cycle of the great rainscales ~
And well, my feral dragon and his partner Breise also celebrate the festival, eating the occasional salmon. After all, two great dragons must eat.
This drawing makes me particularly happy, because it came out more beautiful than I expected. It was born as a random idea in the middle of the week. I think it has a jovial and positive air. As the salmon change, they become mature and beautiful, and then they defy currents and obstacles, bringing new life with them. That is why I also named it "festival" because it is something positive that brings rejoicing.
And well, in addition to looking very nice to me, the salmon are absolutely delicious ~
The ultra quality version, with all its versions for study and enjoyment, are on my Patreon (and for those who also want to help an artist): http://www.patreon.com/ClerianD I also have a Ko-Fi page if you want to help me there https://ko-fi.com/clerian
