
Item 28. A willing slave who only cost a few denarii.. The coin shown is modeled after one of the emperor Trajan -- rounghly 100 AD. No Roman would actually dress like this, of course, unless they literally were to be had for a denarius or two. The usual female costume, even for a domestic slave, would more closely resemble your great grandmother petunia in everything but the bustle. Shoulder to floor garment, lots of chintzy looking jewelry, too much make-up, and a hair do that added two feet to her height.
