Turning a blind eye to shitty behavior is weakness. Eventually those who have been silenced are going to speak up…
Did this piece a while back as venting for some personal things going on. The same day I was planning on posting, the heartbreaking news around George Floyd broke. Part of me hesitated since I felt like this is much bigger than my personal situation.
Stepping back, I realized that’s part of the power of art. The artist expresses their inner emotion, and other humans realize they’re not alone in feeling a certain way. Once the art is out there, it’s no longer just about the artist, the viewer can (and should) connect to it in their own way.
Not comparing what I’m going through to this, but the emotion behind the piece is relevant to what’s going on, and I feel that it’s important to acknowledge that. Not everyone is in a safe enough position to have a voice. If you are in a position to have a voice, SPEAK UP for the oppressed. #BlackLivesMatter
