Lydia is showing of some of her magic, it works as this:
She can controll a magical dust like fog that comes from her fingers, she has absorbed a great amount of mana and forms her own magic mist with it, this mist can interact with anything it touches and nothing can really prevent it except for wind. Her mist is so small it can go trough any cracks and holes. And if desired she can use the dust itself to set up a portal allowing her to travel great distances in the blink of an eye. However her mist can only move so fast, She is limited to her own slow magic and therefor created tunnels underground that are just small enough to carry along her mist and therefor not big enough to notice. This allows her to store it down there and keep using them making it more fast to create a portal and less of struggle to get away in a pinch.
