So I noticed that there were a bunch of Carl Sagan drawings popping up on FA. Well I've always thought he was a most righteous dude, but with all this recent artwork I've been seeing of him, I figured it was time I took a whack at drawing him. A bit caricatured too.

Growing up, I didn't have many real-life heroes. That man was one of the few. I always loved how excited he got over the possibilities in our universe, and I like to think that's rubbed off on myself, and, more importantly, those around me.

I feel pretty much the same way I guess. I'm not the sort to hold any great amount of reverence for anybody, but there are a few out there, and Dr. Sagan is certainly one of those people. Bringing science and our knowledge of the universe to the average person in terms they can understand and in a way they can appreciate; truly a worthy cause to have lived for.

Well like I said, I've been wanting to draw a caricature-y portrait of him for some time, and all these recent drawings I've seen of him pushed me to actually do it. Went through a buncha sketches to get the right look of him, lotsa refs, tried some fast-painting techniques- lots of experimentation in this piece for me. Very happy with the result though, and I really wonder if I should start drawing a lot more humans.

Dude, what the heck is up with Buzz Aldrin being on Dancing with the Stars? Eh? I was always happy to see Dr. Sagan along with Buzz trying to get people to be excited about space exploration again, but what the hell? Ballroom dancing? C'mon man, you're a respected space pioneer, don't regrade yourself and the Science like that!
I know this is Carl Sagan but to me it honestly looks like the main character from Heavy Traffic :V
