Those are fully grown trees in the background. Not ten feet tall but hundreds. The Red Crystal itself is gigantic, and its spring is basically a large, deep lake at this point. That is water, but it carries the concentrated Taint of the Red Crystal. The Red Crystal is present in several of my AUs, but it is only sentient in the Red Crystal AU and the Red Crystal Pony AU. These AUs are very sexual, but that can't be seen from this image.
