Sproing! Bunny Koopus!? Page 1/2
So recently I talked a little bit to the awesome
koopusk and wouldn't you know it he was the second person to request a sketch off my journal/
Eight still available as of posting.
Actually he offered to make it a trade, and since this is my first real trade I decided to put a little extra work into it. Not as nice as I'd like it to be but probably still higher quality than my normal work. We'll just ignore how long this took me.
Right, so Koopus was just standing around when SPROING! (Yes I did a sequence for the sole purpose of using that noise) a pair of bunny ears popped out of his head. Suddenly they grow longer to their full size and he notices his shell is getting a bit to big. When it falls off, he notices the scales on his chest have been replaced with puffy pink fur!
Yes it's 'sposed to pink. My scanner killed the colors on this. T_T
Well that might be a bit embarssing, it seems without his shell Koopus is in danger of being exposed a bit. Luckily though, he finds himself getting even shorter, and shrinks down into his shell, with only his ears sticking out from above. Oh my, his glasses seem to have fallen off. Think he can still see okay?

Heh, very cute little start here. Interesting reason to start a sequence, but I've heard worst...still, It seems you've got every pat down pretty well here, nice pacing and good coloring (yes, doesn't it blow when the scanner does that to you? Still, the coloring is still pretty good). Looks promising, and nice little touch with the bit of narrative. I'm sure Koopus will love this. Good work
What happened? I can't see anything *Koopus's fuzzy little head head emerges from the neck hole of the shell. He's so small now, his feet are almost lifted completely off the ground by this feat. The shell wobbles dangerously for a few seconds, seriously unsettling the new lapine before it falls sideways. Koopus crawls out of the enormous shell and stands up, a little shaken, but pretty much okay. He dusts his new salmon pink fur flat and brushes a few disheveled blue hairs back into place on his mop of blue headfur. Having regained at least a semblance of composure, he begins to look around, squinting quite liberally. He pads over to where his other articles had fallen. Stepping around one of his plain black wristbands, which is now about the size of an average car tire, he bends (barely) and, having to use both paws, lifts his gold-framed glasses into his arms then up to his face where he must hold them in place. He perches them precariously upon his tiny twitching bunny nose, looking absolutely ridiculous, but at least successfully "looking", with his sight restored*
Silly story, I always do that, sorry.
Ooh, I love the way you drew this, Calex- It's really, really nice!
Though, and I hope this is okay, I've got to point out a few things that are sort of problematic in the picture. First off there's some incongruities with my character design that bother me a little bit. First there's the glasses, you've drawn them a bit more squarely proportioned in the frame shape than usual, the shape of Koopus's glasses are a bit more rectangular and rounded at the bottom and the frames are more golden yellow in color. But that's more my fault, I can see my error in showing just those two pics as reference. The "Family Thing" me and my avatar image both feature black specs.
Second, there's a piece missing from my shell. If you look carefully at my ref pics you'll see there's actually a lip of sorts separating the soft malleable front section of the shell to the hard and shiny back. I realize it gets hidden in many of my drawings, so once again the mistake is completely understandable.
One final thing, and might be just me, the eyes and overall expression on Koopus's face in the first image... Well, it looks a little off. My irises seem to be slightly askew too. And we've already discussed the eye color thing... Sort of. If you could also make the irises a bit larger in the white, that might also serve to strengthen the expression.
You don't have to change anything if you don't want to, (and I imagine it'd be rather difficult too, colored pencil doesn't relinquish its hold on the paper easily, and attempted erasure can cause some major damage. Unless you work digitally, which is a tricky business in any case. What you can change pretty easily though is try to make the eyes more level, that is pencil, right?
Oh, and there's one more thing I want to tell you, regarding the scan quality. It looks very good from my perspective the pink reads as pink, what program are you editing these images in? MS Paint? Photoshop? Something else? If it is Photoshop then I can give you some tips on recovering a bit of the color that got blown out or distorted by the scan. Though the best thing to do is to work for the scan, that is, to predict and account for the damage the scanner might do by really pushing and darkening the lines and colors, I also suggest trying layering the strokes of the colored pencil until you achieve a solid color.
Just to see how that might work.
How long it took you?! It's only been barely 24-hours, Calex! And you magically conjure up this masterpiece (as ironic as that imagery lends, magic and a rabbit, right? Now we make Koopus disappear)! Ah... Never mind ^^; ) You're really amazing! Oh, I wish I could give you your side of the trade, but it may take a while. I've got so much work to do... *hops off with some difficulty, trying to steady the comically large glasses, muttering timidly about lateness*

The narrative is fun no worries.
And the mistakes... I apologize. >.< I'm kinda.... sucky at this. I don't really have any real way to edit without doing the entire thing over again. I don't actually have a program on my computer to do any touch ups with.... I'm actually... completely clueless how to use any image editing software. So it's pretty much raw straight from the scanner. The only thing I might do is erase a few things in MS paint.
I must say one thing, the irises were kinda meant to be pinpoints in the first appearance. Why? Cause I tend to overly use anime expressions of shock or annoyance when I can't figure out how to do the eyes properly. >.>; Which happens a lot actually.... Sorry if ya didn't like it. >.<
I'm kinda a newb artist.... I've been bugging some offline friends to teach me how to draw and most of them decided I was to hopeless a case to educate. ^.^; As a result I'm kinda just learning by trial and error, which so far.... Has been a rather... slow... process.....
But um yeah, I definitively don't mind you pointing out flaws, it's the closest thing I'm getting to coaching which I kinda seriously need if I'm ever gonna up the quality of my work.

Aw, you're not so bad, you just need to keep at it. No one's hopeless, 'specially not you- You show so much promise- so much!
Now that you've explained the iris thing I totally see it. It works just fine. I admit I'm not that big a fan of the mad intensity in my gaze in the first image- It looks rather like I'm about to explode in fury, which I don't really tend to do all that often (and certainly wouldn't towards you, Calex) It's just a bit out of character, that's all.
And for a work that came directly from the scanner this looks fantastic. I... Er- well it's awkward to offer this, but... If you'd like I could try some of my Photoshop techniques on this image... Only with your permission of course! I don't know how I'd get it back to you though... Hmm, I could submit it in scraps and then you could hit download from there, otherwise I could try by E-mail. If you'd like.
Um, also- If you want any help with drawing you can go ahead and ask me, I'm still learning myself (as every artist is) but I'd try. I have a lot of good resources where I go to school- Plus I know a thing or two about TF. If you want a coach... I could give it a shot.
Well... Just say the word.
Just on a side note, I saw that you added me to your list of friends in your Artist's Profiile- Thanks! But why do you say "TF Master"? I don't recall ever... Oh, wait a minute... "I'm supposed to be the TF master" -Meme Time! Part 1. Well... Uh, I gotta say I don't really feel comfortable with that title, I'm no more a master at TF than any other artist, including you. We're all masters and students of the TF vibe *takes meditative pose* TF is always changing (yes, you read right) always inviting new challenges... *dissolves into a meditative chant*
Oh... Uh, sorry... ^^; Heh, lost what I was trying to say... Oh yeah! I made that declaration of "mastery" as an arrogant and foolish koopa, I'd really appreciate it if you'd change the description to something less... Reverent.

I was going for shock and confusion more than anger. *flails and falls over* I really suck at eyes....
And if you want to touch it up I don't mind. I can give you my e-mail address through a note if you need it, or if you have an IM client I can poke you over that. ^_~
And I'd be more than willing to take any help you wanted to offer. o.o;
As for the TF Master thing, that was meant more as a joke than anything else. <.<; I'm not some creepy stalker guy who's worshiping you or anything. I think I got it... from your meme actually. Well I am stalking you but that's more like the kinda stalk then pounce on prey and YOU HEARD NOTHING! But anyways went ahead and changed it. :p
