A Clear View of the Scenic Wasteland
More art for my senior year art project.
This is a mixed media piece - the illustration was done digitally, and the background was done in real ink. The illustrations were printed out, done over with very watery ink worked, and scanned back in.
The project has evolved away from album art and has become a sort of art book/journal of a character exploring a diseased, polluted town. This is sort of the opening "scene", the first big illustration of the book.
If you're waiting in line for a commission... it's art like this, for school, that is making it hard to get through the list.

Reminds of The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I think I said that about another one of your pieces but im not sure....
regardless, its a big compliment.
also, ive been asking all my artist friends: When you make art (in general, not necessarily for a project like this) do you try to communicate a message, or is it just making art for the sake of art? (not including commissions or your comic, i mean like traditional art-art that could go on display somewhere)
I like that you didnt include the name of the town, makes it a more universal theme. are you uploading more?

Do you mean, when I make art that I don't need to?
Well, since I"m an illustrator, my pictures generally need a theme or message to portray, or an emotion, even if it's just "cute!" or "porn!". Art for the sake of art, to me, is abstract art, which is not what I do.
I don't plan to upload much more, as none of the other drawings are as full and comprehensive as this one.

Well, the answer is contextual, really, and relies on the artist's mood and what he's doing, but...
I don't know which you'd consider a piece done to express a simple feeling. Sometimes people do art just to express a feeling of beauty or sadness... But is that art for art's sake? I don't think so, I think that's trying to create a certain feeling within the viewer.

If you're interested, I know a theme (track) that would go along pretty well with this picture. To find it, just go on Playlist.com and search "Estasi Dell Anima." It'll be the only track that comes up.
I think the overall mood of the track is very fitting to this submission as well. Also, the track isn't too long, so it isnt much longer than the amount of time you'd spend looking at this piece in full view.
