Serene was semi-changed by harmonizing a mix of 3 different species. The key word is "harmonizing" and if you all look back, the big word HARMONY was seen, as Serene entered the scene. One could assume, that that means, that the Parasite's functions are in harmony with the host's system. I could be onto something with this line of thought...
