Any good dragon will have a hoard, something about being unable to resist the temptation of anything even remotely shiny, but without opposable thumbs it can be pretty hard to manage all those trinkets and baubles. Some dragons rely on their lesser lizard siblings to help keep everything sorted, perhaps allowing them to take home a shiny coin of their own at the end of the day as compensation... or simply promising not to eat them if they do the job, who can say.

Either way, it's probably best not to get distracted playing with one of the dragon's valuables, and an especially bad idea to wake him up from his nap...
