A Clown to Down, excerpt from 'Octopusssy' - transcribed by Amethystine

It is a starless, moonless night, in the middle of Berlin.
The dividing line between West and East Germany looms in the near distance as a circus bustles with gaiety and lights, just on the eastern side of the Berlin wall.
Away from the mirth flees a man - a clown. He vaults over a fence, leaving the park the circus had been set up in, ducking into a wooded area.
The slender red panda is barely recognizable as such, his fur painted white, mouth surrounded by a red frown. A black tear denotes him as a sad jester.
His face is a mask of desperation and fear, somehow matching the cartoonish sadness of the makeup.
Panting, he clumsily runs through the trees, hindered by his ridiculous and baggy outfit of orange, yellow and red. Looking back, he can see as his pursuer, a dark cat in a red silk shirt and black vest, easily jumps the same fence and gives further chase. The feline is steady, calm.
He is also wielding several knives.
The clown tears through the underbrush, constantly looking back to see where the cat might be, worried that the silent and swift killer may be gaining on him, unheard over the noise of his unwieldy clown shoes.
There is no joy to be had in watching this hounded, pitiable creature. There is no mask of performance, even with the thick make-up on, all pretense of theatre and even of civility is gone. He is a wounded animal, with only one will.
To escape.
With his head turned back once more, the red panda runs directly into someone else, in the middle of the darkened forest. The clown gasps for air, in surprise, but also to plead the stranger for help.
But it is not a stranger. It is his hunter.
How--?! The feline is impassive, coldly staring at his prey. The clown's head snaps back to where he came from, unable to fathom - he was sure the cat was behind him.
The impossibly present cat swipes at the wah with a knife, as his prey jumps backwards. The attack tears into the thick clown coat, scraping the fur and flesh beyond before the clown can dodge far enough away. The baggy clothes prove their worth, albeit only slightly.
While the circus' knife-thrower has his arm extended, the clown lunges forward, clasping around the arm, leaving the knife-holding hand behind his back, so that he can kick up at his opponent's stomach, causing the cat to double over. A heavy, thickly gloved fist comes crashing down atop the cat's back, causing him to drop to his knees.
The clown is no push-over.
Off he rushes once more, satisfied at having slowed the blade-wielding feline down. Moments later, an identical cat arrives: this is the first pursuer, the twin brother of the kneeling predator. One helps the other up, and they set off once more, after the clown.
Sounds of rushing water swell up as the red panda runs onward. A bridge looms up in the darkness, part of the wall between East and West. It is fenced and guarded, but it is dark. The clown makes to climb it, to cross to the West, away from the circus, away from his hunters.
There is a faint sound of something in the air before there is a heavy solid *thunk!* A knife has materialized, vibrating in the wood of the post, directly next to the red panda's tattered glove.
Fear is an excellent motivator.
Grunting with renewed effort at the sight of the two sadistic cats on the riverbank behind him, the clown scrambles further up the side of the bridge.
Another knife is loosed, expertly.
As if guided by the hand of god, the blade sinks into the panda's back. The whole of him reacts, tensing and arching backwards, falling fully free of the bridge, into the rushing water below.
The killers remain hidden in the bushes, away from the lights of the small woodland bridge, away from the guards that patrol it. The clown would have been happy to be arrested, to be away from his feline tormentors, but they are not willing to be caged. If they desired something from the clown, it is lost to them.
Four shining eyes retreat into the darkness of the wood, silently vanishing.
~~
Perhaps an hour later, at the mansion belonging to the British ambassador to Germany:
A private party is in full swing. The cultural elite waltz to the sound of a string quartet. It is hard to say if there are more guards, or servants.
And yet, a soggy shape shambles from the dark of the rear grounds, toward the light of a side room's large french doors.
"Darling, I simply must be present for my own speech, you know," jokes the canine ambassador to his wife, a shrew.
"Coming, dear, I--" the eloquent woman's words, usually so abundant and well-crafted, fail her as she sees, through the mirror she used, a nightmare come to life. The ghastly visage is impossibly pale, stained by blood and.. tar? Out of the darkness it lunges, arms outstretched, zombie-like. As it crashes through the room, the putrid smell of swamps, blood and death permeates the air.
The shrew shrieks, as the monster collapses.
The clown tumbles down, arm unfurling, then fingers, causing that which he had clutched until his last, to roll forth, toward the feet of the gown-clad lady.
Bright as the room is, the light dances upon and around the gold lattice exterior and translucent green shell beneath, as it trundles slowly forth.
A gleaming, jewel-encrusted egg.

I was not familiar with that meme, but now I am.
I can see why you thought of it, but I believe the poster was intending a sort of 'resolute resistance to seductive advances by villainous personae' theme. Also, the whole 'your duty comes first' thing.
Anyway, thanks for the fave! :}
Also, didn't you retire this account? O:

Great poster commission and great short scene!
These intros to movies/writing always seem a bit of a goofy tangle of things just to grab at people's attention. Of course, it works!
Why would a clown bring an fancy egg to a soiree? Seems like a lead up to a corny punchline when I spell it out. :P

I believe he was just trying to get to the nearest bastion of British-ness. As in, the ambassador's house was nearer to him than the embassy, perhaps.
The intro scene was the thing with the mini-jet [which is even more flashy and attention-grabbing], but this chase with the clown and the twin cats was immediately after the title song, so I suppose you could call it an intro as well. The intro to the main plot, indeed!
Anyway, yes! A great poster, I wish to hire this artist again for the following film: 'A Glimpssse of a Kill' - I find it fitting that, within the narrative of the Sond films' production through the years, the same artist might have returned, to have done the poster times in a row. Ie: the film-makers (or the marketing department) kept the same poster-artist in mind a handful of times in a row.

'A Glimpssse of a Kill'! I hadn't thought of that way to remix the words to slot your eses in. I'm curious, what's the my favorite Brit band 'Duran Duran' been relabeled as? From some comment somewhere in the Octopusssy submissions (The Clown) that you've turned one of my fave lady singers Tina into a tuna-mermaid! Tina was known for her legs-- her legs! Gone!
I haven't done any work on the little details of things in 'A Glimpssse of a Kill' yet. I have ideas for the species of the major characters, of course, but things like what animals are in the band 'Duran Duran', I haven't the foggiest. Would you care to suggest something? I tend to pick based on something in their music, so I would think that at least ONE member of the band would be a wolf, as a nod to 'Hungry Like The Wolf' - but perhaps that's too obvious.
At the least, we can be sure that a wolf person was featured at some point in the video for that song.
In looking at photos of the band, I feel like they all look a bit different from one another [as opposed to some bands where they all dress and look a bit alike]. I can picture them as a group of various anthro species.
'My Antarctica' suggests at least one penguin.
And there's also 'The Man Who Stole A Leopard' >__>
But perhaps more importantly is 'Tiger Tiger' and the album name [and unreleased song]: Seven and the Ragged Tiger - so one might imagine a tiger MUST be in the band. And there was one red head in there, who could fit that bill.
The song 'Union of the Snake' must have meaning to you, as well, for you to have used it for your 3rd trilogy entry. :}
Then again, even if it doesn't have special meaning, it's a nice, fitting title for a story with romance and a naga involved. [It also gives me an excuse to have one of the band members be a naga >:}===< ]
~
It's funny you mentioned Tina and her legs at all. It was only today that I ever heard anyone else mention her long legs, as well. I don't know much about musicians/singers, so to have this sort of detail about Tina Turner show up twice in one day is significant.
Anyway, sorry! My obsession with sirens and their songs, must be sated.

Haha! I've never thought about 'fan-servicing' real life people into animals in the same way you're going about it. Naga it up :). I'm biased, so my suggestion would just be at least one hoofers xD, a reindeer (god, I love reindeer). [Seriously, even when the egg-forger was mentioned to be a deer I got excited]. They're just a band whose music really clicks with my ears in such a way that they're a go-to. Hehe, you caught me with 'Union of a Snake', but it's just another (good) song to me. "Tiger Tiger" is named after that William Blake poem I think you've referenced once. I'll tell you my favorite song is "Come Undone", the video has a girl underwater, too!
Ah, wonderful Tina. Truly, it is a blessed day that you have been graced with the mention of Tina's legs twice. "GoldenEye" is probably her best performed song. "The Best" is the next best.

The scene where he escapes through the jungle and faces various animals is clearly going to be different, in the Sond version. I imagine that it's a bunch of hunters trying to capture him, which he has to evade or subdue or best in quick combat moments.
There would be a pair of anthro spiders trying to catch him in a web, a big tiger strongman, a trio of elephants, and another naga, all of them trying to capture Sond for their boss, the cobra, Kamal Khan. - I have to imagine that the key is turning the team of hunters against one another, via confusion or augmenting and aggravating actual animosity previously buried within the group.
Anyway, I'm glad this is your fave, but my fave Moore-Bond film is Live and Let Die. I still have a small pile of Sond scenes I want to write for that one.
Oh, and thanks for the fave on this, and on basically all the other Sond pieces in my gallery. :>
