Yup, the idea was the growth progresses not unlike "King Size Canary" in the stomach races in size way ahead of the rest.

Probably a lot less collateral damage if he can wait for the effects to wear off! Else yeah many warehouses will be totally gutted, to say nothing of major food service hubs.

Dragons can grow to be cosmic in scale (pun not intended). It seems to fulfill a deep-rooted need, buried in the genetics, to have a lot of pleasure in being large and getting even larger.
