The "scythe", so far, was only featured in one short (Dynamite Dance). So it's implied that Elmer, if he's even in the hunting mood for that short, would rely on other traps and weapons besides the typical gun.

Yeah it seems weird and kinda antithetical to a franchise with a history of violence and thinly veiled jokes aimed at adults. What really gets me though is that instead of a gun they're going to give Elmer Fudd a scythe. Really guys? Guns are a no go, but turning Elmer Fudd into the Grim Reaper is Okie-Dokie? I mean, if anything being killed with a scythe would be much for painful and violent, so I'm not really sure what the logic here is.

But, eh, it's the entertainment industry. I can never seem to understand those guys, and it's not like this really matters all that much. Weird, yes, important, no.

Now they will take a big part of two characters from Loony Toons? Come one, Josemite Sam allways had been this cowboy/bandit archetype to the point that he allways has this eyemask, even when portrait in another timeline (like, as a roman legionare for ex) and Elmer allways has been the hunter that tried to get Bugs or Daffy. Come one guys, it is not as if Elmer wants to eat them either, he is a vegetarian and hunting is a sport for him.
I admit I do not watch cartoons as active anymore as 10 years ago but it still befuddles me. I hope they will still be able to pull all those silly stunts that made us laugh back then, for todays watchers.

Robot Chicken predicted the future of Elmer and Sam not getting have their guns anymore. But honestly The two were able to still work well as characters in The Looney Tunes Show without them, so maybe it’ll all work out in the reboot.
