"Gets cold out here at night...." Silver Wolf remarked, pulling out a cigarette and a lighter. "Don't suppose you have any form of shelter?" Looking across the fire, he stared at a creature. They were hunched over the fire, seeming to use it for warmth. Their red eyes shined as orange light flickered against them. With frills on their head and a lizard-like tail, it could only be assumed this was a gecko.
"I travel here all time. Night and day. Deserts no worry me." The gecko spoke with broken English. Silver Wolf didn't expect this when he saw the gecko before, but he was amazed nonetheless.
"Yer name?" He asked, lighting his cigarette and taking in a puff of smoke.
"Luke." The gecko stated simply.
"Name's Silver Wolf." The werewolf reached his hand out as a gesture for a handshake... but the gecko merely looked at him. "Uh...."
"I no have food on me. I sorry." The gecko's eyes saddened.
"It was my attempt at giving you a handshake -- a gesture that humans used in forms of formal understanding or agreement." Silver Wolf took out his cigarette and puffed out a long stream of smoke.
Luke stared again.
"Nevermind." Silver Wolf huffed, resting himself back onto the log and folding his arms.
"I not used to people actually talk to me... instead of shoot," Luke remarked, his lips curling into a smile.
"Land's radiated and dead. People think it hardens folk -- makes 'em unwilling to trust anyone. Everyone deserves a chance, cuz I know everyone needs companionship." The werewolf took a deep breathe of his cigarette. "Also, I ran out of bullets."
Luke frowned. "Would you shoot me if you have bullets?"
"Doubt it." Silver Wolf shrugged. "I ain't got a job to kill ya, nor didja threaten me. No reason to shoot." Silver Wolf was silent for a moment. "Got a story?"
"Yes. You?"
"Same. Let's start with yours."
Luke took a deep breath before telling Silver Wolf his story. The gecko spoke quickly, and as they did their eyes lit up. It must've been a long time since they had someone friendly to talk to.... Silver Wolf would remember that.
