Prickly pears are relatively unchanged compared to other plants and are a popularly foraged food source in the Mojave desert and the Chaparral de Mexico along with other local food sources such as Dragontongue plants and Yucca, it's pretty reliable, light on mana and easy to sing the spines off to eat the fruit itself.
Drekir also often stick in pairs or groups when out foraging, for the obvious reason of safety, but also about ergonomics. A drek with a backbasket needs help putting the thing on, taking it off, nad usually can't reach it. Most foraging parties have a dedicated pack drek while the other drekir in the foraging party dedicate their time to gathering stuff and bringing it to said pack drek. As drekir are not exactly the most flexible creatures this system helps compensate for their general raptory lack of flexibility.
