Well, I think they explained Sasha away as a Lombax hybrid of some sort. They're also playing with tying together the overall "multiverse" from the original three games, the three "Tools of Destruction" games, and the reboot series they started for the PS4.

Eh, they rewrote a character introduced in the second game before shoving him into a protagonist role in the third one. The second one also had a cliff hanger ending with a huge plot twist that seemed to have been brushed off in the third one. The third one still ended the series on a relatively high note but not quite what it could have been.
