The lore of the series apparently states that female lombaxes don't have tails. Given the only case of a female lombax is Angela(to my knowledge since I only played the first four installments, bored-googled the rest), and she was stated to be a half-lombax if I recall, the actual full female lombaxes lacking tails isn't entirely known.
