Aether Product Shots 01 - Work In Progress
This post is bittersweet;
With great pride, I can finally hold a printed product, smell the sweet aroma of fresh printer's ink, and bask in the glow of an overwhelming collection of excellent furry works.
On the other paw, it was printed backwards. Because nothing is easy.
Lulu placed a blank page in front of the master PDF I submitted (even though I already included a blank page), and thus everything was pushed forward one page. This means that page numbers are now in the gutter (fold) of the book, and all of the spreads are broken. This is all highly annoying, but not outside of the normal process of press-check proofing. It just takes longer given that I'm not on-site of the printer.
But with every step, we are closer. I have submitted my comments to the printer and I am awaiting their feedback to see if I need to change something or if they can do it.
Once more, thank you all for your time, patience, support and wonderful talents.

Huh, interesting stuff inside. I remember seeing the cover art, but i had no idea what would be in this book... apparently it is a mix of everything within the genre, and that's pretty cool. I'd definitely like to get a copy at some point, backwards or not (man, that must be frustrating, i hope you can get it worked out.)
Thankie thankie!
Yes yes, Aether is a book intended to showcase a wide breadth of Furry works from all avenues of artistic creation, from Fursuits to Comics to classic paintings. I tapped a lot of niches, and I think it really comes across in the book.
Yeah, it's frustrating as hell (especially since I had to buy the book to find the error) but we'll get this squared away.

didn't know it was so huge. :)
printed backwards? technology always finds a way to spoil efforts... Murphy's laws for computers come to mind. one would think they look into the finished product first before shipping it to the creator for checkup. :P
good luck with getting it sorted out quick.

I knew this was going to be a big publication, but I never knew it was going to be *this* big. It makes the asking price seem quite low now, I'd expect to have to pay about £40 GBP at least for something of this scale.
Of course, the important question now that you're on the cusp of release is whether or not you'd want to do it again? It's been what, 3 years in the making now?

Thank you, Angyl, I really do feel the same way. I wish there were a feasible way for me to make this more affordable, but in this particular scenario, there simply is not. In the end I really do feel Aether is worth the price, but I am clearly biased.
Honestly, I would do this again in a heartbeat, and I intend to. The three-year time frame on Aether Volume 1 is due mostly to the hard drive crash I experienced after I completed the book the FIRST time, in 2008. That crash stole more than just Aether, though. I lost a lot of work for a lot of really big clients, and I was, for lack of a better term, royally screwed. I was running like an idiot for months just trying to re-complete the work I already did not to mention the new work. But that's a different story... ^_^
