I'm still toying around with a minor character's backstory, and how this copy of the Tails Doll could be related to her.
An interesting idea I had come up with was that Sonar had a very simple heart monitor installed as a child. If she was to die before turning 18, the Tails Doll in her hand would explode into a fury and (attempt to) avenge her death -- eerily similar to how the Curse works, save for the bone-chilling music. If the doll was destroyed beforehand, or she was 18 or older (the assumed age where she can more than fend for herself), obviously nothing would happen.
She is currently 17 in the comic. ;)
