2013 art of Dominic "Skunk Boy" Mephitto in his basic Skunk Boy form. His ears and nose are costume pieces, but his tail is real--and his skunk butt is fully operational!
Being an awkward skunk/human hybrid, and growing up in a human community, Skunk Boy wears a costume nose and tail so he can pass for a human cosplaying a skunk, apparently being a weirdo constantly engaged in animal cosplay is somehow *less* awkward than being a skunk boy?
There's a bit of symbolism present in how he neither fits fully into the "human" or "furry" category--much like how I feel in real life. A bit too "normie" for the furries, but just "furry" enough to be considered one by many.
