Akizawa's story continues...
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
Oooch, I had issues doing this page. Coming up with the different characters and clothing was especially problematic. And even after all that, the backgrounds look pretty bland, which is disheartening. Another issue is the easing of lockdown measures in my country, which basically means that it's the same issues I'm having as those on page 79. The final issue are the protests surrounding the killing of George Floyd. How that relates to Akizawa's story remains to be seen but, most of you already have guessed Aki's kinda violent....I'm still mulling around how far she goes in this but that's probably three pages away...
Lots of different species on this page (although a few are in silhouette).
[Update] The minor colour fix to the noble's clothing on the last panel.

I came across
jilo's Jiló and The perfect Playmate recently (I got reacquainted with it today actually), and I'm liking his colour choices (yellows for flashbacks, blue for present).
Funnily enough, I'd toyed with using a different base colour for the flashback but decided against it (it wouldn't have looked half as good as Jilo's colours...although, I should try a pic and see how it looks....hmmm).

Crowd scenes are the bane of cartoonists! You have to come up with all these characters to populate the scene, and unlike a simple dialogue frame which can have a blank background, your crowds have to be in some sort of setting, not floating in a void .. it's a hassle.
Anthropomorphs are the perfect tool for telling stories about social issues, because animals don't have the same racial and social context as humans. This is why Aesop used animal characters in his fables. He could deliver his moral lesson without offending the offensible (at least, not as much as he would have if the stories were about PEOPLE). What I'm getting at is, you'll probably be fine .. and if the issue is difficult to discuss, that's a sign that we probably NEED to discuss it.

On about the protests, please understand. The unrest needs to happen as it's been covered up for FAR TOO LONG. Accountability needs to be had.
And about who would be offended. As a black man, I view the police issue as LONG OVERDUE. Someone's ALWAYS gonna be offended, whether it be fur characters or not.
I tell you to be of GOOD COURAGE. Tell the story.
