An attempt at drawing "transformation" art from 2014, featuring Skunk Boy shifting from his "normal" Skunk Boy form, to his Great Horned Skunkdog form.
I always felt like his transformation would be more like the ones you see in something like Dragonball Z, or more like a werewolf transformation, where he's not afraid of it and it's not an unwilling thing--in fact, he's doing it on purpose! It's still a lot of effort and might not feel all that pleasant, though...
I'd like to revisit this at some point, maybe draw him a bit further along in his shift, but I don't feel like my skills are quite up to it even in the middle of 2020, six years after drawing this.

Well... I guess that since he is able to control the transformation, it makes sense for him to appear more "in control" of it. When he was younger and he first discovered the ability to transform, it was probably by accident, and probably terrifying for him! But, as he grew, and learned how to shift back and forth at will, he became far less afraid and uncomfortable with it.
As to why, if Skunk Boy feels so alienated in his humanoid form, he doesn't just remain in his Skunkdog form permanently, it's because the Skunkdog form is somewhat monstrous in appearance and stands out even more. Not to mention the shedding, and the horns sometimes get in the way, and it's much easier to clean human skin than monster fur, less hair clogs in the shower drain that way!
From an out-of-universe perspective... What little transformation art I saw around generally had the subject as an unwilling participant in some way, some external force transforming them, and they often seemed afraid or distressed. So if a character is transforming willingly, they'd probably show a bit of intent in doing so.
Also, since Dragonball Z was my jam when I was younger, it's one of my major influences. Things like characters powering up with energy auras, throwing around glowing balls of energy, and even transforming just sorta show up in my art sometimes.
Thanks for asking! I really appreciate you taking the time and showing interest in my characters!
