Tempera paint is fascinating as well! My friend gifted me a brand new set of tempera paint and it is just a pleasure to work with. I realized that it is poorly known nowadays, even though back in the times it was widely used by the Masters of art (the Birth of Venus was painted with tempera, a good example, I think).

This paint is somewhat in-between oil and gouache paint. It has a nice, matte surface once dry; a rich colours that don't become bleaker with time and a whole range of possible techniques. You can apply it in thin layers, like watercolour, or thick ones, like oils and gouache. It dries quickly though, so watch out for it to stay wet on the palette. I started to paint with it on paper and I didn't enjoy it at all. But once I switched to cardboard, it gave me one of the best traditional medium experiences ever! Soon I'll try painting on canvas, we'll see how it goes.

Not entirely satisfied with the picture itself, but I guess it is good for a first try. I will fix some bits with pencils, varnish and put it on sale soon.
