This is Lucy, my border collie and Australian shepherd and Australian cattle dog mix. She passed away two summers ago. She lived to a ripe old age of 15. She was my best friend during some rough times. I still dream of her and miss her. She hated having her photo taken...she was so smart. She knew so many words. When I moved away from home I wanted to take her with me but couldn't.

Lucy was a really serious dog. Her "dog smile" was always on the serious side, almost never open-mouthed and toothy like you see other dogs smiling. She was very protective of her family and never would run away from home. On long walks in the woods we let her off the leash and she'd get a certain length away and always look over her shoulder to make sure we were still there.

She was a great dog. I miss her so much.
