Right after the guard slams and locks the cell door, Dawn is unable to hold in anything much longer, even though her only relief is to find solitude in her cell where nobody can see her rush over to her prison bed to spend the rest of the afternoon and evening sobbing out in sorrow and remorse right after whispering "I'm sorry Mrs. Otterton" which she says at the end of the second chapter to "Visitors". At least nobody can see her cry like this and accuse her of "faking" emotions which is why she attempts to bottle up her emotions whenever she is around the other inmates during breakfast, lunch, dinner, the visiting room, the Television room, or even where the showers take place. But over the past year and a half that she has not spent in prison, Dawn finds out that it becomes harder than she thought to try bottling up any more emotions any longer, even when she has encountered other predator inmates that have heard about what she tried to do and demand retribution against her, making her the target of their bullying which leaves her to believe that it's what she deserves behind bars more than anything. Behind bars for the rest of her life (until chapter 4), it will be nothing but sorrow, sadness, regret, loneliness, bullying, and abuse which is why Dawn thinks about how much she hates herself for everything that has happened; even how she was born into this world as the joke of society from predators that threw her over the edge, only to become no better than the ones that wronged her and may have forever cost her the love, compassion, respect, and appreciation from everyone that could have been her close friends if she didn't end up making bad choices out of anger, fear, stress, or confusion. Right now, Dawn cries on her bed all afternoon and all through the night until it's dinner time and she knows that a pile of dishes wait for her after that. While she can handle dish washing, there is no telling what other taunts and ridicules await from the others that are probably prepared to throw everything at her while she is cleaning.
