I think this is one of the strongest arcs of the story so far, although it's a difficult call. Love how you're handling Sammy's maturation, and even old Hatchet gets some significant character development - bravo! You weave the exposition in effortlessly, and the way you have Jack contribute in the second half of the chapter was really well judged. I'm very much looking forward to the next chapters.
