Punk is Dreaming Of Punk - By Lenika
Lenika shows us Alora dreaming of a time when Punk was not something that you should be afraid to draw because people think you are actually plotting to do what you draw.Punk has been always about excess, and how excess flattens people to a single cardboard purpose.
(also: the art of beautiful destruction and filth).
Do not blame the people who warn you of a shitty behavior or attitude or how much of a cardboard cutout some people look like... for the disasters that happen.
It is meant to show us what happens when things are excessive.
Today people think punk art is depicting actual will to go through with those things or plans to enact something.
This. Is. Bad.
Punk art is just plain escapism where things would be destroyed in your fantasy because doing it for real would create too many an hassle.
A.K.A. the people who got their stuff destroyed are actually other living and breathing human beings.
And: let's be frank... when you draw to open the eyes of people to the shitty things they do, you do not wish to do so in such a way that makes them actually hurt.
You want to express the rage and the ways in which they hurt the heroes of those stories.
And make them understand how much of a flattened cardboard villain they look like.
And how much they make the hero become an unthinking machine with a single purpose.
Punk is all about making people realize how much revenge is self-destructive, how little it accomplishes (uhm... sure... you tore down "the bad guy"... and that was truly badass... you got your revenge... now?) and how much destruction and pain happens when people are reduced to simple elements.
It also is all about making you look at people and realize how important are such things to some people, and how behaving in a certain way can only look like you are either a cardboard villain or a hero with too much drive for their own safety.
We are all cogs in a machine. Not a single one of us is more important than the others. Despite what we think about ourselves. Let's operate the machine within the safety limits and do proper and regular maintenance.
Because if you push the machine of society to its limits, never do maintenance, and think only some parts are important and neglect the others... some cogs are going to break, axles are going to bend, the destruction will be epic... and while watching a wreck might be artistically interesting... the results are always a lot of pain and tears.
Think about it.
And let Alora (representing a random punk artist) do her f-ing job and remind you of what goes wrong.
PUNK!
ART!
SHOULD!
NEVER!
