because I believe that everyone should be aware that Weed, Marijuana, Ganja, Mary Jane, Whacky Tobaccy, 7 Leaf Cross, Magic Beans, Yesca...It's a harmless plant. Even when used to 'get high' it's harmless and to be honest that use is the users choice.
If it were legal, there would be fewer dealers, cheaper prices, and therefore, less crime to steal the money to buy it. Less trying to hide it, and overtime a lot less controversy. Just like an Equal Rights movement.

It really amazes me how so many people think marijuana is such a bad drug. It's not harmful, it's not addictive, and it is certainly not a gateway drug.
I heard that in November California is putting a bill up for voting for the complete legalization of it. I have my fingers crossed and am hoping for the best. I am certain that not only will that knock down a lot of crime and thin down prison populations for non-violent offenders, but it will also create tens of thousands of jobs in a struggling economy.
LEGALIZE IT!

Seeing as how full marijuana legalization can only come about through the acceptance of general society, I think it'd be best if all of us stoners had the facts on the table and didn't set up straw man arguments. I wholeheartedly agree that weed should be legalized for medical and recreational uses. I also believe that we should be well informed on the negative effects of cannabis, so that it'll at least look like we're making a well-educated, thought out decision.
One empirical article I read, "(M)arijuana use is associated with a reorganized visual-attention network and cerebellar hypoactivation," tells us that smoking permanently changes the way we process visual information as well as our ability to balance. HOW it changes the visual information we receive is unknown, but we know that it's a relatively significant change, because it's easy to see in an MRI. Marijuana is also a prime medium of escapism, which has the potential to be highly addictive. Also, being an incredible anxiolytic, people with high anxiety can depend on marijuana to reduce the pain of (and sometimes altogether avoid) stressors in life. We see a level of anhedonia and apathy in chronic pot smokers that is only comparable to people on heavy doses of SSRI's.
Those given, you guys already know a whole bunch of good stuff about pot. Like how it will arrest and promote the shrinkage of lukemia tumors? About how Cannabidiol reduces neuroinflammation that causes Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases? About how alcohol can destroy you in far worse ways far faster? About how chronic smokers obviously still have the capacity to be incredibly productive, intelligent, and well-informed members of society?
Hit me back if you need any research done. I fricking love reading up on this stuff.

Thanks for the post!
If I knew you in real life, you'd probably be one of my favorite people to talk to. I love researching this stuff too. In fact, I probably spend as much time reading up on marijuana as I do actually smoking it. I think to support something it's important to be informed.

THC also has anti-cancer properties, since it has been shown to encourage damaged cell death, so any carcinogenic effects of the smoke itself are cancelled out...that's why, of all the studies that have been done, no legit ones have actually proven smoking marijuana to be linked to cancer of any sort. Cool, huh? c:
I researched the crap out of this before making the decision to smoke it at all, so I'm like a freaking encyclopedia of information. :D

It's like you read my mind.
I hate the taste of alcohol, and alcoholism runs so heavily in my family that I rarely touch it. I like Amaretto Sours, and I need to start drinking red wine for my heart...but other than that, nope. And did you know they make tea leaf shisha? It's not tobacco, so it has no nicotine and no tar. It's healthier, tastes better (in my opinion), and still makes awesome hookah smoke. <3

Ooh, really? That's awesome! Do you still have to be smoking-age to buy? (I bet you do, haha). That sounds just wonderful. I like shisha but it's always been kind of a "guilty pleasure".
I like alcohol, I just know better than to use it much. I wouldn't mind drinking at rare events like certain holidays or celebrations or conventions (I drink on mardi gras for instance, and my birthday). But I never drink for no reason, not anymore.

The cancers that THC (and cannabidiol) target are selective from what I've read. There's a fair amount of positive correlational data between smokin' weed and getting cervical or prostate cancer. This means that cannabinoids are cancer-specific, or that the cancers differ in biological makeup as well as location.
I have seen that weed works wonders on leukemia and slows the rate of breast cancer growth. I'm intrigued to learn more on its actual interaction, so if you've got any leads for info on that, I'd love it. As it stands, it's badass that there are other stoners who actually make an attempt to understand what they're fighting for. Respect.

This is just another reason it should be legal: so that research could be done, and we could come to understand a bit more about its medicinal uses.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/release.....0401181217.htm Here's the original article about the anti-cancer properties it may have, if you're interested. c: I'm a total nut for any sort of scientific/medical data regarding the usefulness of marijuana. I don't turn a blind eye to the (few) negative aspects of it, but as far as I'm concerned the pros FAR outweigh the cons.

Seeing as how others appear to have the medical information covered (although it also has been proven to have anti-cancer properties, helps those who suffer from asthma, and the legalization of it is backed by every single member of the American Psychiatric Board), I can cover your philosophical and moral reasoning.
