"The uwan is seen much, much more often than it is heard, but this scraggly, hairy yokai does one thing very well: shouting out 'UWAN!' from the darkness to scare weak-willed passers-by into fainting. Once they faint, the uwan can steal their life force and slink off to spook another unsuspecting pedestrian. If one is brave and shouts 'UWAN!' right back at the creature in response, it will reveal its cowardly nature and escape, never to bother you again."
