For our fifth project in graphic design, we were to choose from a list of businesses, and then create four guidance symbols in Illustrator that would identify certain places within that business. The symbols had to have a unifying design, and had to communicate their intent without using words. They also had to incorporate the concept of figure ground into the design.
I chose to do the children's play center, and pretty quickly, these little bunny icons jumped to mind. Originally, I was going to have two of them in each panel - one representing a parent, and one representing a child - but the professor suggested that I pare it down to a single character for simplicity's sake. When I get around to it, I'll scan the original idea sketches.
Clockwise from upper left, the symbols are: medical station, juice bar, parking, and baby changing station.
