Fanart for a YA novel that is still one of my favorite books, The Scorpio Races. The world is such a great mix of fantasy and realism, especially the magic the water horses respond to (red ribbons and tassels, iron, daisies, counterclockwise circles). Wanted to draw one all tacked up for the races as a break from the otherwise serious stuff I've been surrounding myself with.
