Some people break in to vandalize or squat (live illegally) and some break in to steal metals and other items of value. Security is a sensible precaution.
Sadly, most of the owners of these buildings find it odd that anyone should want to have a look around and photograph them without any wish to cause harm to the structure or to threaten the ownership of the building.

It seems cruel that grand and once well-used buildings aren't kept in use but allowed to decay and crumble to be replaced with either nothing or some massive statement of modern architecture. These buildings were, on the whole, built to last whereas more modern structures seem to be purely temporary until the next big architectural idea comes along. Modern buildings are, to me, far too transient.
However, there are people like yourself capturing the progress of decay which we can only be grateful for, especially since the travelling waterstains in this picture are so unusual that they're only on one half of the entire room.
