This is his first character drawing he ever commissioned. It's really nice that he choosed me to do that artwork. KiDra is a librarian so he like to read hehe
I tried some new technique in this background - how you might noticed ;D
Photopainting is fun <3 I build that background out of abou 25 photos and painted it. =)

This is phenomenal work. I /love/ the background. I especially like how the foreground is in focus but further out it's out of focus. That's a very nice touch. Good stuff. ^^

Dragon reading a book! Sweeeeet! <333 The plant in the background looks so real. Is it made by combining paintings with photos?

P.S. I like your idea about blurring part of the background to give more depth of field to the picture.

It would be safe to say that your new technique work prett damn well! OMG!! For someone who has never had their character done in a commission, you have set the bar into the stratosphere! He may never be happy with any other commission he will ever get from now on! }:=)

I am glad to hear that he is happy with this. Who wouldn't be? There is something to be said about simple things. That is the way nature works. Nature does not do things in a complicated fashion. Nature always takes the easiest path. }:=)

hmmm also wenn ich das bild so betrachte, wirkt der hintergrund ein wenig zu realitisch im gegenzug zum drachen.

Was für ein Hintergrund...wahnsinn.
Wirklich clever, das mit dem Photopainting.

Wenn man digital arbeitet und nicht alle möglichkeiten ausnutzt ist man selbst schuld X)
Außerdem lernt man daraus~ und irgendwann kann mans dann ohne Fotos ^_^

Der Hintergrund ist ja mal SO dermaßen abgefahren - du sollteest echt mal nur Landschaftsbilder machen, wie man sieht kriegst du das jedenfalls locker hin.
Und auch interessant mal nu ein gutes Bild von KiDra zu sehen - bin ja mal gespannt was seine Reaktion drauf ist.

Naja gut, vielleicht nicht -nur- Landschaft, aber z.B. so wie Caspar David Friedrich - bei dem spielte die Landschaft ne wichtigere Rolle als die Menschen darin.

Das sollte auch kein Ansporn der Marke "immer gehobenere Ansprüche" sein ^^
Du machst das gut so und dass Verbesserungen ab dem Niveau ohnehin sauschwierig werden, dürfte klar sein

Ich lese grade eine herrvoragende und schöne "Drachen Saga" (Die Feuer-reiter seiner Majestät). Und der Hauptcharakter "Temeraire" ein sehr seltener und mächtiger schwarzer Himmelsdrache kann wie die meisten NICHT lesen oder schreiben. Er uns sein Reiter und guter Freund verbringen fast jeden abend damit. Er liest ihm vor^^

Absolutely beautiful and amazing! Reading a book is one of the things you dont get to see a dragon do often, but hey, they wisdon and knowledge dont just come from heritage. They too have to read :P Great work!!

I don't know... I like how the surroundings look, and the dragons pose and everything.. it's just the skin... I'd like to see it more scaly... so to speak.... other than the skin: Excellent work and i'd love to take a look in that book, looks like it's interesting reading :)

And for the background, did you use the "gaussian blur" or the one just before (don't know the english name) or another one ? ;)

You should try one called something like "Lens blur" (which is not just before the gaussian blur in fact... x) ), and put the second cursor in "Diaphragme" at the max.

It gives the same blur as a camera would when you focus on something in the foreground.

I hope you understood. ^^;
