Kenny is a witch and Rayray a herbalist who just opened up shop in this new town making remedies for sick people. The town they live in fears Kenny's magic so they tend to lash out in fear of her. Rayray finds her hurt and helps her with herbs and starts a lovely friendshippp wink wink. (pretty embarrassing stuff here hint they gay)

Mermaid Herbologist AU (MerHerb):

Rayray is an eel mermaid that is part of the sea witch's eel group that dabbles in magic and potion making. Kenny is a blue lion fish mermaid and one of the royal daughters that seeks adventure on the surface. The two meet while Kenny attempts to go to the sea witch for help when Cosmic the blue colored tiger shark spots and saves her from a cruel fate. (Still brainstorming! We gay keep swimming)
