It was a long restless night on the floor for the Queen. She never left her child's side after Camari was attacked by an unknown assailant; simply due to fear of her world being the next target. The unknown can truly be more terrifying than anything you could know because how do you prepare for something you don't yet know exists?
"Mommy?"
Naomi rose from her slumber just as the sun was rising from its own. A shining day allowed the moon to slip away for a must needed rest. "Mommy!"
Rayna jumps straight from her sleep when her daughter scream leaks into her sleeping mind; a soft innocent giggle escapes Naomi when seeing she spooked her mama.
"I'm scary huh mama?" This giggle relaxed the fear of the mother, Slowly exhaling a sigh of relief before kissing her daughters forehead.
Upon leaving the bedroom she finds Jessy and Polly asleep on the floor just outside of the door. Polly was sound asleep on her stomach against the cool wooden floor while Jessy looked like he fell asleep sitting with his back against the wall and his arms crossed along his chest. Rayna silently covered them upon with chilled sheets as to not disturb them. Pressing her index finger to her lips to tell her child to be quiet once starting to walk by the sleeping guards.
The day carried on like every other day except everyone was on edge. An attack came from within The Kingdoms walls, that alone would make anyone glance over their shoulder a time or two.
Camari has not yet woke from her slumber causing a blanket of worry to cover a few aching hearts. Did she loose to much blood? Did the blade damage her head? Will she remember any of it happening? No one yet knows but something that was very well known was the anger starting to brew in her brothers heart, with each passing hour his sister did not regain consciousness, his anger grew more and more. Heating like a kettle upon a burner, when will he blow?
Naomi was tucked into bed by her mother once the sun had tucked back down behind the mountain, another day complete. With a single kiss to the head she is left tucked safely in her bed with her raggedy teddy bear, in hopes she can sleep peacefully while the adults struggle to keep their eyes open. Being left alone for tonight due to her mother going out on tonight's patrol of the territory. Even though guards were placed outside the door just in case.
The patrol seemed like years away from her child so in turn really couldn't focus on anything else. Jessy having noticed the worry in his fear friends eyes he nodded his head behind him signaling that they will be cutting it short tonight so they can return to where they are truly needed for the time being.
Who. Whoooo.
Just outside the cracked window a great horned owl rested upon a branch teaching its two young ones how to use their pipes. Who, who. The smaller chick had no interest in his mother's teachings, for that night he was much more interested in the little flickering flame wiggling around atop the candle in the window. While his mother was distracted he fluttered down to nip and peck curiously thinking the flame was an easy meal. Naomi's attention easily being caught by this cute chunky fluff of a bird that decided to get so close, she slowly slid from the safety of her bed trying to get a closer look but before she could get a proper look the baby was spooked bad enough to fly back to his mother in a hurry. Filled with pure disappointment Naomi rushed over to the window to see where her new friend went. When suddenly the window is slammed open, the child being picked up by the back of her shirt like a rag doll.
MOMMY!!! MOMMY!!!
The child only got two screams out before her mouth was covered with a bandana. An unlucky strategy for her attacker considering the screams caused the guard dogs to start barking wherever this evil being tried to run off to. The snarling pack soon get him completely surrounded giving him not a single place to run. Before he could even realize it the child is yanked away from him and drop kicked right in the gut making him hunch over, the air knocked out of him.
"Shield her."
Were the only words to escape Jessy's lips as he placed the tip of his rifle against the now breathless attackers skull. Rayna instantly shields her daughter's eyes and ears starting to walk away.
"You and those like you stepped over a line that never should have been crossed. Now you will be the one to deliver a message."
Jessy's words came out mixed with a growl. Rayna could hear the man begging for his life moments before a gun shot echoes through the night sending a bullet into his skull.
Placing his boot against the dead mans head only to crush it like a melon just as an old war brother had taught him.
"Let the war begin."
