Cats hunting for lizards is the normal state of things, even when the lizard in question is sentient and almost 3 meters tall. :P
Many non-humans fight in human armies, especially in the territories of the Elarian Empire. Usually they get a better pay, more rights and a better social status in exchange, so many are willing to fight alongside the "oppressors" in order to secure a better future for themselves. The Ajshar in the drawing is part of the Elarian army, probably as a scout of some sort, judging by his lack of uniform. He was likely sent after some non-human rebels together with his collegues, and is now following the trail of an injured Sa'Jiir.
(on a side note, I really should draw more renaissance era rifles, they are sexy as hecc)

Love the mix of cultural items from clothing to weaponry. Traditional blade and garb and human made sword and firearm. I get the feeling it may be a long hunt, reptiles don't die easily unless the head is destroyed - had a few irl run ins with certain snake species in the past. Hmmm if that weapon is a smoothbore, I'd suggest a load of 5 or 6 smaller pistol balls in it - use for a head shot at close range on the Sa'jiir
Interesting design on the musket, the crest, and the armband. Judging by the positioning of the sword on the back, and the dagger, this is a seasoned warrior prepared for both long-distance and close combat. His expression shows such confidence in his tracking skills.
I really am fascinated with the backstory you've given and artwork is amazing as always😎⭐⭐⭐⭐

I have fired anElizabethan matchlock. Odd sights, but the construction keeps a lot of the smoke from the detonation out of the sights, mostly. It’s not that accurate beyond 50’yards (46M),’but it was easy to load and aim quickly. Lots of smoke though, and slow match is a little fussy.
