Fursona Take 2
...well, although I like the pose and the design, I am NOT loving this color scheme! I really don't know what possessed me to choose a black jaguar + a lion, but blending the two is proving to be supremely difficult. I think I may cut my losses and just make her a full lioness. ...or mix her with a wolf in some way...hmm...
...or, I can keep trying with this until I get it right!
After all, the only thing that's bothering me are the colors.
ANYWAY! After all that rambling, here's a second take at my fursona. I...don't know if she'll ever wear clothes. I remember I had this same issue with the Sweet Shoppe characters and Alley Cat Blues, too. I'm leaning toward just letting her walk around like this, though. I don't know for sure, but, I'll have to figure it out, eventually. Right now though, I need to try and figure out a few other things.

Initially, the cream parts were grey The problem was, you couldn't see the "lion" in her at all, only the panther. So, I tried to make the cream parts the color that would appear on a lion, but...I'm not lovin' it The problem is that her panther side is extremely dominant which makes the lion side virtually non-existent. She doesn't really need anything to bring out the panther, just something to bring out the lion Thank you so much for your suggestions, though
Yeah, I made sure to add the lion's tail to show that she's got some lion in her But, apart from that, there wasn't much else For the life of me, I can't get that iconic lion eye marking right! It only works if you draw the eyes a certain way and I don't happen to draw eyes in a way that accommodate it I completely agree with you that the cream is too bright!!! The dark grey of the jaguar just doesn't blend well with the warm browns of the lions...it's like trying to blend night and day
This was kind of what I had been talking about by adding spots. To me the lioness comes through wonderfully, especially with the tail tuft and bushy hair (even though that's a male trait) but the jaguar seems to be lost in the mix.
Plus I think if you only added the spots on places where one normally gets freckles (cheeks, bridge of the nose, tops of the shoulders, tops of the forearms, and possibly across the collar bone) it would add to the hybrid-ness of her parentage. Similar to Zig Zag's tiger stripes being skunk-patterned.

I have a jaguar like that in my scraps/photo gallery. I see the spots, there, but in translation to art, it's just not worth the effort because most people won't be able to see it, anyway. Moreover, I really didn't like the color scheme here. It's way too loud! Even with the addition of spots, it just wasn't working.
Ooo, I do like the look of this, Kitty! But I have to also agree with you and several of the people above me; the color combination doesn't really work. Which is a shame, because in themselves, they are really good colors!
Now, I'm all for mixing unusual colors (my skyblye snowleopard/cougar character Misty Blue, my lilac-furred cheerleader Lilac Plush, my mouse characters Aster and Mimosa (lilac-furred), Cerise (bubblegum pink) and Minty Mouse (green), are a clear proof of that But even with such clear, bright colors, I always do try to get a proper, fitting blend and combination (such as peach-colored hair for Cerise, blonde-green hair and turquoise skin for Minty). *grins* The only deviation to that was in a chapter of a story I'm working on with a friend where my fursona meets up with a make-up specialist who does movie make-up, to get a full-body fur disguise done; the lady in question was a Siamese, and for the occasion, she was testing out new fur dye, having a grass-green fur with dodger-blue markings! But that was just kind of a joke.
What could you do for your fursona, though? Mixing pre-dominantly jaguar with a bit of lion is a very difficult mix, indeed. One thing that you pulled it extremely well off with is the tail; like mentioned by one or two people above, that just has 'lion' written all over it! For the fur colors, I can see it being a lot harder, though... especially because there's no real compromises; a black panther is basically black, a lion is basically beige, there's no real subtle tones that come closer to each other.
Hmmm... perhaps you could opt for a kind of agouti thing going on, with the undertone of the fur being beige and the outside being black/grey... I have to say, I also like the idea
darkmuse03 came up with, the freckles/spots. I can see your reasoning about such not really being worth it in artwork because not many people spot it, or when they do, don't know what it's for, but that is, I believe, something you should not give a very high priority when it concerns your own fursona; your fursona is there to represent what you feel represents you the best, so if that means freckles, then there'll be freckles! You have to be happy with it after all
*giggles*
I could say much more here, but this comment has already gotten way too long, and I saw in your gallery you did do another take on your fursona, so I will save the rest for a comment on that other picture!

Wow! That was an epic comment! And yeah, there is another fursona design here that's more current. Long story short, I'm just a lioness. I had always seen myself as a black panther, but, I adore lions (and wolves, too) so I just went with the lion...for now. Maybe I'll have a dual wolf persona, too, but for now, I am feeling the call of the lion within me
*smiles and nods*
Yes, I left an almost as epic comment on your "Take 3" as well But you're so welcome! I can really understand how you feel, and like I mentioned, the most important aspect of a fursona is that it has to truly represent what you feel inside, what you connect with the most.
*giggles*
And there's nothing wrong with a little switch every now and then, either... your feelings can change, of course! I mean, heck... over the past years, I have had a rabbit fursona and a mouse fursona before I finally settled down with Cat when I realized how strong Cat is inside me... but even then, my fursona Zinzoline went from a shorthaired brown/black tabby with white patches to a grey/black tabby with white patches, to a goldcat (Felis aurata, so lovely!), to a long-furred fully white cat with lilac eyes, and from there via a short-furred calico to the fluffy calico I am now, and will always be!

Yes, even now that I setled on my final form of a tall fluffy calico cat with angelwings, I'm still not done morphing! My fursona still has the choice of three forms; regular anthro (and a very tall one at that), small quad kitty, and kitty taur! All as a fluffy calico with angelwings, though... but still, I keep morphing all the time according to my whim!
*laughs*
And as a fellow feline, I daresay you know how whimsical we kitties are...
