More experiments with Lighting and rendering with Blender's EEVEE engine v2.83 now. Looking forward to new features of 2.9 Series of Blender. The performance improvements should allow more animation.

If you're learning professionally, then Maya is the current industry standard. But Blender isn't too bad, considering it costs nothing to use. I'm self taught, mostly by focusing on one single tool at a time, then mixing things up with new skills. Each image usually includes a new skill or technique, even if the result is subtle.
I am aware of that, I don't want to go into the formal games industry really. I would be happy free-lancing I think. Whenever I have looked at working for a studio, I don't think I would suit it well.
I'll be continuing to train in Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, 3DCoat etc but they're not available after I graduate and...honestly they're a bit of a pain to work between.
I've been watching you for a long time and learned some nice little composition things. I really like the consistent dynamic you have built up with them all <3

I have the professional licences for 3DCoat and Octane render. Bought into them when they were low cost early versions, and then upgraded for small fees for each version over the years. I choke when I look at their price now. 3D coat usually has excellent Christmas sales by the developers
Composition, I try to treat the rendering more as Photography rules. Intersting Lighting is what I find myself fighting over for a few hours.

Mmmm yeah, you can get the cracked versions of software but I prefer not to really. I'll keep that in mind if it's something I need to pick up.
I've not studied photography a lot (or as much as I should but there's so much of everything!) and I use the 3d as a base I work over mainly. So I suppose that does make it a lot easier to control that. I just share over the local colours for the subject in a warm shade and the BG in a cool shade.
I find I never quite get away with the sky dome, I need to spend a good amount of time to work that out. The lighting I have gotten by with is a strong directional light in a warm or cool shade then contrast that with two opposing temperature spot lights. I've never tried to light more than a couple of objects. And fiddle a bit with the angle and fall off settings. I can see how that would be tricky for a scene though!
I'll have a look at photography lighting in relation to 3d as I've of my topics so I don't run into that as a problem!

She honestly doesn't care for it, it's heavy and awkward and she's struck it a few times, but it's not like she can willingly remove it anymore.
At least it has useful properties in certain situations, and she's learned to live with it. Bathing with it in the way is a specific challenge.
