2015 art, The first time I've drawn a full-body picture of one of these evolved cyborg/armored hyenas since 2009...
The idea behind these guys is that they are an "evolution" of the standard saber-fanged hyenas, where a combination of magic and science-fiction bullshit causes them to rapidly transform into this more advanced form. This new form features limbs and a skull helmet made of "bio-steel" and wings with jet engines that enable them to fly.
I can ramble at great length about this concept, the parameters necessary for the transformation and how it works and what its capabilities and limitations are but I'll only do that if there is some interest in it.
It can also shoot lasers out of its mouth. That's always cool.
Here, this one is taking off, getting a running start before launching itself into the air.

Thank you very much! I've actually generally treated hyenas as protagonists, more than antagonists--I guess with so much media out there vilifying them, I wanted to portray them in a generally positive light instead, or it's just that I simply find them way more interesting than lions in every conceivable way.
This particular form is great offensively and defensively, but also incredibly good at hunting as well! They can see into the infrared and ultraviolet spectrum a bit, have heightened senses of hearing, increased resistance to poisons, toxins, venom and pathogens, can fire lasers from their mouths and generate semi-biological homing missiles to fire from those ports on their wings, and of course, they can fly.
However, this doesn't necessarily make them too overpowered--their typical prey, impala-like creatures I rarely draw nowadays, can fire lightning bolts from their horns and can hear those roaring jet engines literally a mile away. Geoterran Zebras are no slouches either, as they can cloak themselves and kick very, VERY hard--flying into a horse kick where the hoof at the end of the leg is practically the same sort of bio-steel is like slamming into a brick wall head-first!

Digimon was, in fact, one of my major inspirations when I first started drawing! That influence, along with Pokemon, is still very much present within the Geoterra designs and lore--even if I don't draw them firing lasers from their mouths or breathing fire or transforming into cyborgs all that often anymore.
Might be time to bring some of that weirdness back...
