How do you get that painterly affect in PS?

I'm marveling at your linework... especially the fuzzy chin effect. Very interesting.

You create the illusion of slick and/or fluffy fur with only a few minor variations in line... this is very educational!

*FLAILS* JEEZ. Your work's always amazed me but the textures and shading here are just to freaking die for. If y'don't mind my asking, was her fur done in multiple layers or painted on a single one? What kinda settings d'you use to get those gorgeous fur-clumps?

Also, golden tabby tigers are of the awesome.

Multiple layers, o'course! :D
Here I first planned out the tones/shading quickly with a bunch of layers, then prettyfied that by painting over the top using the colour picker (on a new layer. I use far too many.) The colours/markings are also on a separate layer, set to multiply.. or overlay or something. Whatever looks best. xD

I generally use a simple round, hard-edged brush with opacity + flow jitter as well as size jitter (but with a 50% min diameter) set to pen pressure.

Random tip: Use the colour picker lots! Hold down alt to quickly grab a slightly different shade from somewhere nearby. You should end up with more variation, and better blending, without needing that icky blend tool~

Golden Tabbies are my favorite color of Tiger. This is absolutely beautiful.

The tiger blends very well with the gorgeous background.

lovely coloring style, though I feel the anatomy on the muzzle is off in the sense that it slopes down too straight and it lacks form and ridges.just my two cents, though
