"You wanted the chili powder, correct?" Bari asked.
"That's right!" Seemir nodded with a delighted blep as he stirred a pot of bubbling soup. "Not too much, now. We don't want it to overpower the other wonderful flavors."
"Heheh, right..."
It was Bari's first day in the Serpent's Coils' kitchen, and having moved up from being a simple barista there was a lot for the young buck to learn. Tutoring new and eager staff, willing to learn the secrets of the trade, was something Seemir, with literally centuries of experience in hospitality, took pride in. For now, Seemir had him working as an assistant, as well as serving non-alcoholic drinks like his previous experience, to learn the climate and culture of the famed tavern. It was far from a five-star destination, but its humble and modest atmosphere were what drew many from all walks of life through the doors.
Bari returned holding a small shaker of crimson powder, which Seemir took with his free hand. "Yep! This will do the trick," he nodded and shook a small dusting of the spice into the roiling pot. "Soups are a wonderful dish to serve, Bari. Do you wanna know why?"
"Why, Mister Brandy?" Bari asked.
"Because no other dish can warm both the body and the soul quite like it. Drinking the warm broth, letting the hot veggies and meats tumble down your throat, feels like liquid warmth. It's a glow that permeates through your core and livens up your spirit."
Bari's ears flicked. "Oh! So, kinda like a nice hot cup of hot chocolate, right?"
"Exactly like a hot cup of hot chocolate," Seemir smiled and, spotting the front doors opening through a video feed, handed the spoon over to Bari. "Why don't'cha take over stirring for a bit while I go welcome some guests..."

Seemir may have been an accomplished multiversal adventurer in his heyday, but nothing brings him more satisfaction than teaching others the ways of humble hospitality. Which is why this beautiful image by
baristdeer works so well with my serpentine bartender, innkeeper, and cleric.
