Many days have went by since the attack on the princess. Never being left alone now Naomi is enjoying all of the extra attention and playmates. Watching over her was completely voluntary to whoever wanted to take time out of their day to keep her extra safe. Quite a few people of the kingdom had raised their children or are still raising them so the princess always had plenty of playmates on a average day but now she has the adults as well.
Like in a pride of lions the lionesses will often share the duties of babysitting and care so the other mothers may rest, hunt or have time on their own. A few men even volunteered so the women could have some peace of mind. One of the main ones you would see near by was Jessy. This man was a very laid back guy who let most things roll off him like water off a ducks back but one thing he never plays around with is the safety of children, he will bring anyone to their knees if they cause harm to an innocent being. Which explains why him and Archie are once brothers turned mortal enemies huh? but that's a different story for a different day!
Jessy has been observing Rayna since the attacks happened. She has begun to blame herself and question her choices with any attack that takes place. Leading, protecting and guiding so many people can be a crazy thing to bare on one's shoulders.
Two of the most loyal people to the kingdom known as Brownie and Stef were on duty watching Naomi, taking the time to teach her about all of the different horses. Jessy took this opportunity to convince Rayna to mount up and follow him. Trusting in him since he never said where they were going.
Hours passed before he halted his stallion Kenai, dismounting in a pretty odd place called Big Valley; no houses, no people, no train tracks for miles. While stood beside his amber champagne Missouri fox trotter he cupped his hands around his mouth releasing an echoing howl into the sky.
Again and again he howled until he got one in return.
"I have a different world to show you. Stay calm, feel no fear and know this is the safest place you can be." Rayna hesitated but nodded in response to Jessy as she dismounted her horse. He leans his head back howling one last time before turning his head to listen for the location of the howl.
"Come."
A few more hours traveled on by, the two talking like old times as if Jessy's departure from the kingdom never even took place. True friends can go months without speaking but when they finally do speak it's like they spoke just yesterday. It's good to have a few people like that in our lives.
Suddenly a growl erupted from behind them quickly turning to reveal a large grey wolf had been hunting them for being in the wolf territory. Said wolf got his jaws snapped at by a semi smaller timber wolf causing him to whimper while standing down. Once safe the timber rushed to greet Jessy as he got down onto his knees to get his face covered in affectionate licks.
"Rayna, meet my mom. Well, my wolf mom, she is the one who kept me safe when I was very young and lost in these woods. They easily could have torn me apart but she kept me safe until my mom found me. Even then I grew up with the pack teaching me so many things about life and survival."
The rest of the pack started to show up to greet him. It took around an hours time before the wolves would go over to the sitting Rayna to meet her. A wolfs lick was always a funny feeling against ones cheek.
"I brought you out here to show you how strong a pack can be. My mom is getting quite old now but look at the pack, it's thriving more than ever despite the scars, tears and marks on their bodies from attacks they still stand strong with one another. You'll never be alone in any battles you may have to face, even your own demons have more to fight than just you." The two talked until dawn, the rising sun telling them it's time to return back to their home after saying their goodbyes to the pack.
Once home, Rayna went to her daughter's bedroom to check on her only to find her asleep with brownie and stef snoozing on the floor beside the bed. A gentle smile crossed her lips as she begun to understand what Jessy was trying to teach her. For the first time in weeks Rayna laid down in her bed falling into a peaceful slumber.
"The strength of the pack is the wolf and the strength of the wolf is the pack."
