ITA you hae to kind of balance both, gradients are hard to use in SAI because you can't use them like you do in photoshop, and teh only hard color tool is kind of the ink...

I don't know how you've been tolerating SAI for like 100% of the piece! I got frustrated after like 4 layers and had to run back to photoshop for half of it!

At first I was weirded out by how it's hard to get clean flats too, but eventually I realized I actually liked that aesthetic and just ran with it. It really loosened up my drawing and painting style! I also work ridiculous huge in SAI. Those icons I posted at 400x400 were originally done at 800x800 for example, and most of my actual SAI pieces go at least a couple thousand pixels a side. XD Then I just work with big brushes (almost exclusively the watercolor tool) and shrink it down when I'm done.

My alternative SAI style is to also work big but use tiny brushes and do lots of scribbling crosshatching then shrink (like that prons I did of me and my fox thing a bit ago, and the she-wolf one). The blending properties in SAI make it still look plenty soft and pleasing to the eye. :D
