The Legend of Miller
Chapter 2
Page 7
Deep in the woods of High Forest, a
Dragontaur named Zlixisos was kneeled
over gathering herbs. She had found a
tranquil spot, where the sun was shining
through an open spot in the trees - a
perfect spot for the rare herbs she
needed for her medicine. She was a
druid - a powerful magic user who drew
magic through nature. She had been
sent from her tribe in Dragontaur Peaks
to hopefully cure a sickness plaguing
their tribe. Dragontaurs were similar to
the Draconis, except they stood up on
four legs like traditional dragons, while
maintaining their anthromorphic form
similar to that of human centaurs.
She had just put the last herb into her
pouch, when she heard harsh voices
from beyond the trees. She took to
camouflage - easy for a green
Dragontaur to do, especially a druid -
and watched with extreme caution.
Dark figures approached from the
woods slowly and methodically. A
Legion scout team was searching for
something with swords drawn.
‘What is Legion doing all the way out
here?’ Zlix thought to herself.
One of the soldiers spoke up, “Damn
mosquitoes are bitin’ the crap outta me.”
he whined as he swatted the air.
“Quit your belly aching!” another yelled
at him.
“Let’s just go home and tell them we
couldn’t find anything.” the first soldier
said again, swatting another mosquito
on his leg.
Their leader punched him in the chest,
and he fell to the ground. The leader
said, “Listen here, boy. We got orders
straight from General Glixsoys. You
wanna go back and tell her you failed,
go ahead!!”
Zlix pondered this new info as the
troops walked right past her, completely
blind to her presence.
One of the soldiers got caught on some
dangling vines. “Curse these wretched
vines!!” one of the soldiers yelled,
unsheathing his sword and slashing it
through the air.
Suddenly, the ground shook, and a loud
roar could be heard from all around
them.
“Put that sword away you fool!” the
leader yelled, “The damn trees are
alive!”
But it was too late. A plant monster had
emerged from the ground, and the vines
suddenly struck down like harsh whips,
and wrapped the Legion soldier.
“Planelis!” the leader yelled, drawing his
sword. One of the soldiers took off
running, but his legs were caught by
roots, which raised from the ground and
lifted him upside down into the air.
The leader lunged his sword at a vine,
and managed to cut it off. But behind
him, a giant venus fly-trap was creeping
up. He slowly turned around to face it,
and screamed in horror as it clamped
down on him.
As the screams faded away, Zlix came
out of hiding. She slowly crept up to the
Planelis monster, and put her hand
against it.
“Have you seen these lost Draconis, my
friend?” she asked in her thoughts.
