Kathy with her son Manji. <3
"Please, sir, just for one night..?" Begged the mother with her child in her arms, clinging to her legs. Kathy had been searching all through Jatella for her son's father, whome had left before he was born. "I swear, I will come back with money to pay you for your trouble."
"Absolutely not! I don't know you, foreigner, and I don't trust you, woman or no!" The man behind the counter in the tavern glared at her and her...strange red hair. Demon, he thought. That was the only excuse he could come up with for a woman to have such bright hair. "Get out of my tavern."
"But my son--"
"OUT!"
"..." Kathy winced at the tone the Jatelaran used. Sharp, menacing, and painful for her ears, and her son's. Manji whimpered into his mothers hip and clung to her long skirt. She draped an arm over his shoulder and whispered comforting words in their own language to comfort him, which did nothing but unnerve the man further. She took no more of his time and took her sons hand, leading him from the tavern into the rain. Manji eep'd and burried his head under his mothers arm to keep from the wet, cold stuff.
They walked for a while until the concerned mother found a thick brush of trees, their canopy seemingly slowing the rain to a simple drizzle. She hurried toward the gathering of forest until she managed to find a spot where the exposed roots tangled and curved into almost a hole.
"I guess this is the best that we can do..," she thought to herself, settling into the curve of roots and pulling her son close.
"Mama..?" The five year old asked.
"Yes, A'ghra..?"
"..will we ever find Papa..?" The question clenched her heart tight and she lowered her head, trying to hide the doubt in her eyes.
"I'll not lie, little one. I'm not sure, but I can promise you that we'll be alright..," She said in a comforting tone, flashing that motherly smile that always made things right for him. He gave a big grin and burried himself under her arm again, nuzzling and purring and idly pulling her hair around him for comfort. He slept that way, with his mother watching over him. They were alone in a strange land, and they only had eachother.
