I always imagined this scenario as someone buying an old Victorian house that, it turns out, used to be a bordello. It closed when something bad happened there (use your imagination) and while it was mostly cleared out of its furnishings and clothing, there was one room that they left alone. That's where the Bad Thing happened, of course. Nobody goes in there. The new owner comes in and is... recruited... to the role of its old inhabitant. Whether that is of the Madame or one of the workers is, again, something I leave to the imagination.
